Charlie Sheen, Is He Still Winning?

Back when Charlie Sheen first came to Spin City I thought he was a good actor. He seemed like the perfect candidate to replace a then ailing Micheal J. Fox and he seemed as likable as Fox. Before that I had seen Platoon and a handful of other roles he had played. I'd seen him in interviews and much more often then not he seemed like a very much down to earth type of person. He was quite a ladies man and seemed to have his life very much on track. I never did realize how bizarre and ridiculous the man truly was.

Over the years I had heard things about his relationship with Ginger Lynn, a porn star and other such women but these things came and went. I always thought that he was better than that and possibly that was simply a low point in his life or career. But even in the past few years with news of his divorce from Denise Richards and then another divorce from wife Brooke Mueller along with allegations of physical abuse. As well as his own battle of drug and alcohol abuse one has to wonder what is up with Charlie.

The event that made it more than just allegations for me was the interview he had with Andrea Canning and a few others where he had quite a few unusual things to say about himself. Sheen describing him as a "total ___ rock star from mars." That he spends his time, "banging seven gram rocks," because that's how he rolls? One would assume he is either speaking about meth or crack both of which could kill you even in small quantities. Sheen later claimed that he was on a quest to right every wrong and make himself the center of the universe. That he was tired of pretending that he wasn't something extra special.

He went on to say that he has the DNA of Adonis the mythological Greek god of beauty and desire and that he had tiger blood in him. Most of these interviews made him look like someone incredibly full of himself and at times like a man who should either seek mental help or be committed. Throughout this period the media, public and tabloids had a field day with never-ending magazines, newspapers, TV and all across the Internet could speak of nothing but Charlie Sheen.

With everyone wondering what was up Two And A Half men was put on hiatus so he could deal with his personal problems. Apparently issues between him and the shows creators were also happening. As the shows producers were making the decision whether or not to bring the show back Sheen had only bad things to say and then demanded a 50% raise before he would return to the show. At the time he was already the highest paid actor in television. Sheen was promptly fired shortly after.

In the aftermath Sheen has made light of the situation and monopolized on his infamy launching a sold out world tour, becoming the fastest twitterer to reach a million followers, etc. But one has to wonder how long the public will buy tickets just to see a man make an idiot of himself. How long will they pay attention?
