Instructions

  1. Start off by opening a Twinkie packet and cutting the Twinkie in half with your sharp knife.
  2. Next, using the dark icing, make two large blobs of icing for each eye. The spot ought to be big enough that when you press the eye into the icing, it will scatter past the eye a little all around the edge. This will make the effect that the minion is wearing goggles. I bought the eyes from a dollar store, but they can be found at any baking/bulk store. If you are unable to find any, you could also use rocket candy (also known as smarties in the US) as eyes. You just need to add the iris with back icing. Some minions have just one eye. just one eye.
  3. Use the black icing to next make the mouth, hair and band around the head to complete the goggles. You can also make arms or even the blue bands for the jumper straps if you have blue icing.
  4. Using the icing dispenser, squirt on some icing in a circular pattern on to the cupcake or cookie.
  5. Press the minion into the icing. Be careful not to touch any of the icing you applied on the minion when you pick him up. The Twinkie will hold in place by the icing.
  6. You can also decorate the icing on the cupcake or cookie with sprinkles, gummy candies or anything you like.

You can bake any kind of cupcake or muffin for this project. I didn't quite have time for that when I decided to do this project for my daughter's school's Halloween dance bake sale, so I used store bought chocolate chip cookies this time. This is why this recipe is listed as a "no bake" option. It's cheating a little, but it still makes for eyecatching, creative bake-sale goods that will sell easy. It worked out well with the cookies as they don't stand too high and made it easy to transport.

I used icing for the hair, however one thing you can do is if you happen to have those long pin-like chocolate sprinkles, you can press them into the head to make a spikey hair-do like some of them have.

For the dark icing, I used this Hershey's smores icing packet. It did the job, but it tends to be a little sticky for this project. Use what you can, any icing will do. Those gel packs work, but those don't dry well, so it's at your discretion.

Make sure to wrap them up well as soon as you can. Twinkies are cake and can get stale if left to the air for too long.

There you have it! Good luck on making these adorable minions. Happy baking!
