Top 10 Lullaby Converted Rock Songs

Updated on September 20, 2013
Source

Many rock bands have enriched our lives throughout time but often the songs are a bit too abrasive for young children or babies. But there has been a growing trend of taking rock songs and converting them into bedtime lullabies and some of them are quite incredible. Below you will find a blurb on each band and a couple amazing examples of their lullaby converted songs. So for anyone expecting, with babies or small children consider these songs as possible lullabies to play for them, trust me they'll love it.

Below are just some of what I have seen out there many more exist. I have seen lullaby versions of songs by: Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Bob Marley, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Kiss, Metallica, Tool, Alice In Chains, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Guns N Roses, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, No Doubt, Flaming Lips, Aerosmith, and many more bands. Some songs work better as lullabies than others but let me know what you think in the comments below and for now read on!

Black

Pearl Jam Lullabies

Pearl Jam is a well known band that came to light with the grunge explosion of the early 1990s with albums such as Ten, Versus & Vitology. Pearl Jam has continued to be a band, make albums and tour for more than twenty years selling tens of millions of records world wide. I've included a couple of the most interesting lullaby converted songs from YouTube and I'm sure they will be recognizable by most. Give them a try!

Alive

Tonight Tonight

Smashing Pumpkins Lullabies

The Smashing Pumpkins started in the windy city of Chicago as an underground new wave band but slowly grew into the powerful rock band we all know and love today. Hearing some of their songs converted into lullabies for babies and small children isn't a big stretch of the imagination. Many Smashing Pumpkins song incorporated a lot of melody and orchestral elements that in this case were just begging to be converted.

1979

Karma Police

Radiohead

Unlike most of their 1990s contemporaries Radiohead wasn't embraced by the masses when they first appeared on the scene. Their sound wasn't all that different than most grunge or alt-rock bands of the early 1990s but they people didn't really catch on until the song creep and then the album, "The Bends," and, "OK Computer," which was a great departure from anything alt-rock was doing at the time. It is a little more unusual to see their songs made into lullabies but song work very well.

There There

Lithium

Nirvana

Nirvana was arguably the king of the grunge era selling massive amounts of records and causing the recording industry of the time to rethink what was mainstream and what wasn't. Although everything for Nirvana Came to a crashing halt in 1994 the music by Kurt and company lives on through the ages. It also now lives on through lullaby converted classic songs.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Guns N Roses

This band came unto the scene in the midst of hair metal bands but rode the wave they created right into the heart of grunge. Unfortunately after having such an incredible impact on the music world the band would break up and Axl Rose would spend more than a decade coming up with the next Guns N Roses album. Here are a couple of the lullaby converted classic songs.

Sweet Child Of Mine

Led Zepplin - Stairway To Heaven

Metallica - The Unforgiven

Others Worth Mentioning

Beyond the 10 I mentioned above I felt the need to mention a few others as there are so many out there and I must give a nod to the creators of these amazing conversions.

I also wanted to say that in some cases it seems to work well but in others not so much this can I think have a lot to do with the song. If it is a dark song whether musically or lyrically it is very difficult to produce something that you'd want to play for a baby. Some of these conversions end up sounding creepy as though they belong in a horror film. But sometimes the instrumentation can make all the difference for instance bells can echo and sound scary whereas the lullabies containing a lot of xylophone sound much more cute and baby orientated. Check out a few of the others I've included and check back periodically as I may make this hub a top 25 list as opposed to top 10 in the future.

Nine Inch Nails - Hurt

Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
