Saturday Headaches
80
Like every Saturday I drag myself out of bed, eat a quick breakfast. I start my car drive to work about five minutes from my home and settle in to do my job. Almost every Saturday after sitting at my computer for a couple hours I feel a headache coming on. Slowly it gets worse throughout the reat of the day until I return home incredibly exhausted and in a lot of pain primarily on one side of my head right above my right eye.
How it happens, why it happens I have no idea. I have tried to understand why every week to see if it is something I'm eating, something to which I'm being exposed with no luck.
What I know
Every Saturday I work my longest shift which is 8 hours, all of my shifts during the week are all 5 hours. One would think possibly working on the computer for a longer period is triggering something. But keep in mind the headaches usually begin within a few hours of my being there so why wouldn't it happen during the week shifts. Strangely enough most of the time I go to work Saturday I have gotten more sleep the night before as I start work at 10:00 AM whereas during the week I begin at 7:30 AM. One would think being well rested would be better than being groggy and tired.
What I have tried
After seeing a doctor who was no help in the slightest as he prescribed Tylenol I tried a variety of different headache prevention methods. I began packing my lunch with a lot of vegetables and taking vitamins as I thought perhaps I had some type of vitamin deficiency. This had no effect. As I work in front of a computer and require a headset on my ear I switched the ear piece to the ear opposite the side of my head that was hurting. I thought perhaps the noise from the set on that ear was somehow causing the headache. This had no effect even after several weeks of doing that.
I also tried changing the resolution on the monitor I was using to a lower setting, allowing the print to be larger in an attempt to limit eye strain as a possibility. This also had no effect. We also switched from CRT monitors to newer flat screen monitors and this also had no effect on the problem. A few times over the past year I have had Saturday off and the headaches still developed on the same day. Although in these cases they seemed to start at a later time of day. How I account for this I'm just not sure. But keep in mind at home I am often on my computer as well so that may be a factor.
What I am unsure of
I have often researched many types of chronic conditions in hopes of identifying what is happening to me and why it can run on such a perfect clockwork. Things like Sinusitis, Tumors, eye strain and other issues spring to mind but more often than not I don't exhibit the other symptoms of each condition. So I continue to suffer and simply deal with it. But I really don't want to do that for the rest of my life. Let me know what you think. Any advice on what I should do, home remedies, possible causes or other questions put in the comments below.

Yes, I'm thinking like time2rite -- maybe the change in scheduling is causing the headaches. Voting this Up and Interesting.
I'm on the comp a lot. Of course through choice whereas you are at work however I've noticed that there are days where by the late afternoon I get headachy and days when I work on and off at the comp and no headaches. Perhaps it can be sffected by weather conditions, pressure etc. I also get headachy when I have some very intense work to do on the comp. Make a note for about a month what changes each Saturday or how you feel and how's the weather etc.
Tylenol does zip for my husband and I. I used ecotrin it goes through your blood and not your stomach so it does no harm
If the headache is only on one side it might just be eyestrain. If you, like me , need glasses to read, one eye might be just a tad weaker than the other. This will cause the strain on the weaker side. If you wear glasses, check with you ophthalmologist to see if the lenses need tweaking a little bit. If you don't wear glasses, maybe a pair of over the counter readers might help.
The overhead lights are they different, I know on weekends some places lower the lights during weekend hours. Are they brighter at different times?
Did the doctor check for thyroid and other organ functions? Heard that certain smells, paint, glue from carpets can cause headaches. Eating a Banana does help some.
Oh I had a rather same problem but mine wouldn't be as targeted and specific as you are. I'll have a headache and both my eye will hurt. If you'll notice, this would occur in the day when you feel laziest. Am I right?
My wife knew the cure for my case and I hope it'll work for you too. My wife is a fitness trainer and she told me that a physically fit person is less likely to get headaches like this.
Try working out the night before Saturday. Just try jogging; jog for about 20-30 minutes. When you do, give us an update what'll happen the next day.
i suffered a severe headache every month due to my menstrual period but when i had this body detoxification it was gone, headache usually occurs due to stress, unpleasant conditions, or something you failed to do that causes guilt...of course i didn't just invent this but months of studying...
you need to unwind, relax, go to a vacation...meditate...eat a balanced diet...sometimes it's the toxins of the food we eat are eating us up too...
It's possible you may need glasses. Sometimes under different lighting conditions you might strain a bit more than usual and feel a headache. The other thing I would check is smell. Does someone where perfume or cologne. Maybe a cleaning service comes in on Friday night and uses a cleaner and there is a residue of an odor. Check your environment and if it's clear check what you have been exposed to Friday night. I used to walk into Walmart every Saturday morning for groceries and they had a lawn fertilizer section that set off my headaches. Now I just avoid that section of the store and am fine.
you're welcome terrektwo...glad to be of help...
I notice I have been taken more headache medicine since I have been on the computer more and more. and my back kills me.. so sometimes I have to stop and just lay down. so i know what you mean.
Thanks for this HUB

Interesting Hub. Lots of good suggestions have been made. I hope one of them helps you find a resolution to your headaches. My sympathies are with you.
Do you have food allergies? MSG, aspartame, nitrates, chocolate and aged cheese can set off a headache. Red wine can also be a culprit. Drink some powerade and take some calcium and magnesium and a bcomplex vitamin when the headache strikes. I have found this combination offers relief.
Hi terrektwo
Have you considered going to a naturopath? Conventional doctors prescribe drugs to only treat the symptoms rather than treating the cause.
Speaking of your doctor, you need someone who is serious about helping you.
One thing for sure is you should not have to continue to suffer and put up with it.
Please keep us updated.
Take care
Oh and terrektwo, just in case you were thinking that I am superfit - I'm not. =)
My wife actually nags at me all the time to work myself out in the gym. LoL!
i am also suffering with the same problem. i tried lots of things but no effect. almost 70% Saturday i feel my head paining. and one day while looking in my astrology result i found Saturn is weak and a weak saturn causes such problem as per astrology. now i am going to try out wearing blue sapphire. may it work.

Are you changing your sleep times Friday night/Saturday mornings and maybe sleeping in? I get migraines, and I've been told you need to have a regular sleep/wake time throughout the week/weekend. I like to sleep in on Saturdays and usually end up with one then. Also, if you are a caffeine drinker, are you getting less on this day or getting it later? Some things to think about and I hope you find an answer and relief soon!
