The Making Of Captain America Gets A Pimple Claymation

Quite awhile back I created a Captain America clay figurine to use in my claymation cartoons. We only really filmed the making of the figurine and sped up the process to make it watchable on youtube. We ended up using the figure in one of our claymation cartoons and then put him away in a drawer, or so we thought. However a short time later when I went looking for Captain America I was unable to locate him. It wasn't until the tail end of last week when I finally found him behind my dresser! So with The Avengers film almost upon us we decided to make a parody claymation cartoon of Captain America, one of it's members. Click the video to watch it.

SPOILER ALERT:

In this Captain America claymation cartoon parody Captain America gets a pimple and heads to the lab to get a scientist friend to help him get rid of it. After strapping him down to one of his latest inventions the scientist consoles Captain America who is having some second thoughts. Convincing him with the line, "what do you have to worry about? The last time you climbed into one of these machines you woke up two feet taller and as strong as the Terminator!"

After the scientist activates the machine Captain America is covered in a blast of blue lightning and soon brightens the entire room. The power goes out and a ding (reminiscent of a microwave chime) goes off. When the power comes back on Captain America stands up and turns to the scientist asking if it worked and if his pimple is gone. The scientist's expression is that of shock as he informs him that it is indeed gone but that he must leave now because it is his lunch break. The scientist quickly exits. The last scene is that of Captain America turning to the camera wondering why as it reveals his head blown up like a balloon or a blow fish.

Following in the footsteps of our other claymation cartoons this one was also a collective family effort. My wife and daughter assisted in character making, set construction and other help, at least a little in this one. The voice acting, sound and overall production of the video was done by myself. In this cartoon we redressed a set and some props used in a previous claymation to create The Avengers lab. Besides Captain America we also included a character that was in one of our early cartoons. I consider it to be our first well done cartoon, the scientist is also the character featured in our SuperDaddyTV logo on our videos.

AS with previous efforts we used our GS-500 camera and made the cartoon frame by frame through stop-motion animation. All video was put together in Adobe Premiere CS5 and sound recorded in Mixcraft 5 and edited in Audacity. Hope you enjoyed the article and the video let us know what you think about it in the comments below.
