Underrated Bands Part 1

This article is about bands that I consider to be very underrated. They are prolific and show true talent a passion for their music and believe in depth and art. The state of the music in the world in my opinion has reached new highs of excess and frivolousness. The songs are hollow, they are meant only to sell the most records possible, they are not inspired and many pop stars sing songs written by others, play no instruments and really have no connection to the music coming out of their own mouths (if it even comes out of their mouths, lip synching seems to be the norm for pop stars). Either way these artists deserve to be supported, followed, etc.

Silversun Pickups

Silversun Pickups may be familiar to some they appeared in the 2000s and seem to be the only ones really trying to keep traditional alternative rock alive. They add quite a bit to the rock landscape and continue in the footsteps of such artists that made rock great during the 1990s. Their newest album Neck Of The Woods is incredible as were the discs released before it. I would recommend their new CD to anyone craving new and interesting rock. They combine distorted guitars with beautiful melodies. Below you will find the first single called, "Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)."

I recommend going back and listening to their other Discs.

SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE

Sunny Day Real Estate like many of their contemporaries emerged in the early 1990s and were added to the label Sub Pop. This was the same label that started Nirvana off. Their very first album later became known as the first that started the Emo genre. Even though it bears little resemblance to the Emo genre of today in my opinion. After their second album they broke up and the remaining members joined Foo Fighters. One of which is still a member of Foo Fighters.

After a reforming in the late 1990s Sunny Day Real Estate released two more albums which in my opinion are the most inspiring I have heard. Their final album called, "The Rising Tide" was incredible and belongs in my opinion up there with Nirvana's Nevermind, Pearl Jam's Ten and other landmark albums. But as they were still on an indie label with little push behind it the album barely charted peaking at #97 on Billboard. What's worse is that before a music video could be released and a tour overseas could begin their label folded. So the album barely gained any traction. I myself only discovered the album in the 2000s marveling at how incredible it is. If you haven't heard this album and are a rock / grunge / hard music fan I totally recommend it.

Below is the only video released later by the band for this album. The song is called, "Killed By An Angel." It is a great song but in terms of best tracks from the album I recommend, "Snibe," and "Faces In Disguise." The latter of which was covered by Paramore.

I will showcase many more in the future, this article has gotten a bit long so we'll leave it at that.
