A Guide To Very Dramatic Scenes From TV And Film Part 1

Updated on July 1, 2012

Over the years there have been shows and films that I have watched that many have found dramatic or at least the hype surrounding them made many believe they were. This is a list of scenes in my opinion that are very dramatic, that truly shine a light on the incredible actors able to do such scenes. Some of the scenes I acknowledge may not be well known shows or films but never the less the accompanying videos speak for themselves. Read on.

ROMEO + JULIET

When this version of the classic Romeo and Juliet came out it was set in modern day Verona Beach and sword was the maker of hand guns used. They also for the most part kept the original dialogue from Romeo and Juliet. Although Leonardo Dicaprio was a known actor at the time he wasn't a big name. In my mind the scenes he played in this film were the defining moment when Hollywood took notice and not the death scene in Titanic. Romeo was made on less than fifteen million but went on to make ten times as much at the box office. The three scenes that truly make the movie include Mercutio's death, Romeo killing Tybalt and the final death of Juliet. I have included the scene where Mercutio dies and where Romeo kills Tybalt. Incidentally this film has a great soundtrack, you should check it out!

FRESH PRINCE

Will Smith is well known in mainstream film these days and just about every time he does a film it goes big and sells hundreds of millions at the box office. But the beginnings of his dramatic acting spark started on television with the show Fresh Prince. Although the majority of the show highlighted his prowess in comedy. There were key episodes where he demonstrated a great ability for drama. One such scene I recall is where his cousin Carlton had purchased a gun for protection. Will had to emotionally convince Carlton to give up the gun. Another such scene was when Will's biological father came back and was supposed to take will on a road trip. He ended up taking off without will and a resulting dramatic scene with will upset over this ensued. Check out the video.

ARMAGEDDON

This film had a lot of comedic bits and a lot of dramatic bits, it also included a lot of great actors. But the scene that stuck out for me was where the character Bruce Willis played had to say goodbye to his daughter played by Liv Tyler. Someone had to stay on the asteroid heading toward earth and press the button to detonate nuclear bomb and save the human race. It would have been Ben Affleck's character but Bruce Willis took his place and had to make a heartfelt goodbye over videolink from the asteroid. Check out the video.

More to come soon as said this is a part one. I just have to go back and think about what I've seen that is truly worth posting. There are a lot of dramatic scenes out there but my mind and the mainstream often don't coincide. what the mainstream often thinks as a great scene seens a lot of times to be more hype than anything. Stay tuned.
